FOR IMMEDIATE NEWS RELEASE – LACCA RECEIVES EXPANSION FUNDS FOR EARLY HEAD START
The Lima Allen Council on Community Affairs (LACCA) will expand its Early Head Start program beginning in January 2010. LACCA will use $601,701.00 from federal grant funds to expand a program for mothers and young children. This new program will be open to those age and income eligible throughout Allen County.
The Allen County nonprofit received a grant through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
There will be 50 slots for a home-based program, through which a Home Visitor visits the mother’s home and works with the family on parenting skills and child development. Another 20 slots will be available for a center based program at the LACCA Central facility. LACCA currently has 76 children on its waiting list; however, families who are interested should contact LACCA Intake at 419-227-2586.
The organization will hire more staff members, possibly about eight to support this program and is in the process of doing so. We are very excited about this expansion for Early Head Start children and employment opportunities for staff.
